Where Sichuan's Fire Meets the Wind of Ryukyu
吴記屋台
The "吴記" in "吴記屋台" comes from the name of a restaurant founded by my grandfather, who was originally from Zhejiang Province.
My father later inherited the restaurant, but due to the impact of COVID-19, he was forced to close the doors of a shop that had been part of our family for many years.
Now, to carry on both the flavors and the spirit of that legacy, I have embarked on a new journey here in Okinawa.
It all began with a small tent stall, then evolved into a mobile food cart, before finally arriving at our current brick-and-mortar location.
The word "屋台" (YATAI) in our name holds a special meaning — it represents our roots, a reminder of where we started from scratch in Okinawa.
From my grandfather, to my father, and now to me.
The flavors passed down through generations, and the warmth of people gathered around a hot pot, sharing laughter together — we will continue to bring both to Okinawa for years to come.
